What do you think about these eight motion pictures?

(You know that I had an especially busy day when I don’t update my blog. For various reasons, including poor time management on my part, this post was meant for yesterday. Enjoy.)

During the month of October, I got the chance to watch more than a few good movies and what follows is a recap of a few of the best.

The Apartment (1960): Directed by Billy Wilder and starring Jack Lemon and Shirley MacLaine, this movie received an Academy Award for Best Picture in 1960. In a nutshell, this movie’s about an up-and-coming advertising executive, who lets more than a few of his male co-workers borrow his apartment for extracurricular activities. This movie was very good.

Ben-Hur (1959): Directed by William Wyler and starring Charlton Heston, this movie won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1959. Based on the 1880 novel, “Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ” by Lew Wallace, this movie features more than a few classic scenes, the least of which is the famous chariot race. The worst thing about this movie? It’s really long.

The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957): Directed by David Lean and starring William Holden, Alec Holden and Jack Hawkins, this British film won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1957. Based on the novel by Pierre Boulle, it’s about a group of British POWs who have to build a bridge along one stretch of the Burma Railway in 1942-43. I really enjoyed this movie and recommend it to anyone who likes war movies.

Gigi (1958): Directed by Vincente Minnelli and starring Leslie Caron, Eva Gabor and Jacques Bergerac, this movie won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1958. This musical is based on a 1944 novella by the French writer, Colette. I have to admit that this movie was just OK, for me, but maybe it’s because I’m just not in to musicals. It was fun to watch, but I was glad when it ended and won’t likely watch it again.

I Am Number Four (2011): Directed by D.J. Caruso and starring Alex Pettyfer and Kevin Durand, this movie is based on the novel, “I An Number Four,” by Jobie Hughes and James Frey. It’s about a handful of humanoid aliens from another planet who escape destruction by coming to Earth only to live on the run from enemies that have followed them in hopes of wiping them out.

Scream 4 (2011): Directed by Wes Craven and starring David Arquette, Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox, this movie is another in the long-running “Scream” horror movie series. I have to admit that this movie was more than a little entertaining.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011): Directed by Michael Bay and starring Shia LaBeouf, John Turturro, Tyrese Gibson, Patrick Dempsey and John Malkovich, this movie is the third installment in the Transformers live-action movie series. This movie was good, but it was also long, running over 2-1/2 hours. If you like action, you’ll love this movie, because it’s full of intense, sci-fi action.

Wrecked (2011): Directed by Michael Greenspan and starring Adrien Brody, this movie was very good, and I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn’t seen it. In essence, it’s about a young man, who wakes up with amnesia and trapped inside a car that’s wrecked out in the middle of the woods. There are a couple of dead bodies around, and when he hears a report about a recent bank robbery on the radio, he begins to wonder if he’s a good guy or bad guy.

In the end, how many of these movies have you had the chance to see? Which did you like or dislike or why? Which of the above is your personal favorite? Let us know in the comments section below.
