My movie picks this week are 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy' and 'The Hangover Part II'

It’s Wednesday, so today I give you my weekly list of movies that will open in theatres this week as well as a list of movies that will be released this week on DVD.

I hope this will serve as a useful guide as to what’s going on this week if you happen to be near a movie theatre or if you’re looking for something to drop into your NetFlix queue.

Movies that are scheduled to hit theatres this week include:

Catch .44 (Action, Crime, R): Directed by Aaron Harvey and starring Bruce Willis, Forest Whitaker, Malin Akerman, Deborah Ann Woll and Nikki Reed.

I Melt With You (Suspense, R): Directed by Mark Pellington and starring Jeremy Piven, Rob Lowe, Thomas Jane, Carla Gugino and Christian McKay.

London River (Drama): Directed by Rachid Bouchareb and starring Brenda Blethyn, Sotigui Kouyate, Sami Bouajila and Marc Baylis.

My Piece of the Pie (Drama, Comedy): Directed by Cedric Klapisch and starring Kevin Bishop, Karin Viard, Gilles Lellouche, Audrey Lamy and Jean-Pierre Martins.

New Year’s Eve (Romance, Comedy, PG-13): Directed by Garry Marshall and starring Halley Berry, Jessica Biel, Jon Bon Jovi, Robert De Niro and Ashton Kutcher.

The Sitter (Comedy, R): Directed by David Gordon Green and starring Jonah Hill, Max Records, Landry Bender, Kevin Hernandez and Ari Graynor.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (Suspense, Drama, R): Directed by Thomas Alfredson and starring Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Mark Strong and John Hurt.

W.E. (Drama, Romance): Directed by Madonna and starring Abbie Cornish, Andrea Riseborough, James D’Arcy, Oscar Isaac and Richard Coyle.

We Need to Talk About Kevin (Drama, Suspense, R): Directed by Lynne Ramsay and starring John C. Reilly, Tilda Swinton, Ezra Miller, Jasper Newell and Rock Duer.

Young Adult (Comedy, R): Directed by Jason Reitman and starring Charlize Theron, Patrick Wilson, Patton Oswalt, Elizabeth Reaser and Emily Meade.

New DVD releases for the week of Dec. 6 include:

Astral City: A Spiritual Journey (Drama, Not Rated): Directed by Wagner De Assis.

Bobby Fischer Against the World (Documentary): Directed by Liz Garbus.

Cowboys & Aliens (Science Fiction, Action, PG-13): Directed by Jon Favreau and starring Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde, Sam Rockwell and Adam Beach.

The Debt (Drama, Suspense, R): Directed by John Madden and starring Sam Worthington, Helen Mirren, Ciaran Hinds, Tom Wilkinson and Marton Csokas.

The Hangover Part II (Comedy, R): Directed by Todd Phillips and starring Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Mike Tyson, Paul Giamatti and Ed Helms.

The Help (Drama, Comedy, PG-13): Directed by Tate Taylor and starring Sissy Spacek, Emma Stone, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Bryce Dallas Howard.

Live Above All (Drama, PG-13): Directed by Oliver Schmitz and starring Khomotso Manyaka, Keaobaka Makanyane, Harriet Lenabe, Lerato Myelase and Tinah Mnumzana.

Mr. Popper’s Penguins (Comedy, Family, PG): Directed by Mark S. Waters and starring Jim Carrey, Angela Lansbury, Carla Gugino, Philip Baker Hall and Ophelia Lovibond.

Point Blank (Action, Suspense, R): Directed by Fred Cavaye and starring Gilles Lellouche, Roschdy Zem, Gerard Lanvin, Elena Anaya and Mireille Perrier.

If I could only watch one movie at the theatre this week, it would be “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,” and if I had to pick just one DVD to rent this week, it would be “The Hangover Part II.”
