“The Hillcrest High School Athletic Boosters Club will meet at 6:30 every Tuesday night at the Hillcrest High School Cafetorium until the end of the football season. All parents and supporters are urged to attend.
“The Athletic Boosters support all athletic programs at Hillcrest High School including football, basketball, baseball, track, weight lifting and cheerleading. The Booster Club needs your attendance and support. More importantly, our children need and deserve your support. If you have any questions, call Ralph Pugh or Melissa Baggett.”

“In observance of homecoming Fri., Oct. 15, 1993 at Sparta Academy, the senior class will be selling corsage mums for $10.
“These ‘football mums’ will be specially designed with your choice of school initials, player’s jersey numbers or class year.
“Show your ‘Sparta Pride’ by ordering yours today from any senior class member, senior class parent or the school office.”

“The Repton High School Bulldogs remained Alabama’s No. 1 Class A football team in a weekly poll conducted by The Montgomery Advertiser. The classy Bulldogs have rolled to a 5-0 record with big wins over Red Level, Coffeeville, Lyeffion, Conecuh High and Southern Normal.
“Something will have to give in the biggest game of the season for the Bulldogs Friday night. J.U. Blacksher High of Uriah, 6-0 and ranked No. 2 in the state, will invade Repton for a game that could decide the Region 1, Area 2 Championship. An overflow crowd is anticipated.”

“J.W. Coburn of Evergreen won the 1978 Sportsman of the Year Trophy for the Hobby Division at South Alabama Motor Speedway in Opp on Saturday night. He was in competition with 27 other drivers. He is shown with his racing car and the trophy.”

“The Wilcox Academy Wildcats defeated Sparta Academy 26-14.
“Ronnie McKenzie had another big night running as he netted 185 yards on 25 carries and scored one touchdown on a 43-yard scamper. Jeff Johnson had 14 yards on four carries and Bobby Mason 11 on five. Jeff Hammonds scored on a one-yard plunge and Johnson passed to Bobby Padgett for two points to complete Sparta scoring.
“Coach Rob Kelly and Assistant Bo Owens named Padgett and Bill Cope as linemen of the week for their outstanding play on defense and offense.”

“Coach Shirley Frazier’s Lyeffion High Yellow Jackets brought their season record to exactly .500 with an upset win over the McKenzie High Tigers Friday night.
“Hard running full back Harold Wilson paced the Jackets as he scored twice to lead the upending of a highly favored Tiger team. The game was played in McKenzie on a wet field with rain falling off and on throughout the game.”

“Rained out last Friday and Saturday, defeated by Blue Devils and Bulldogs, the Evergreen High Aggies will try to get back on victory road here Friday night. The powerful Blue Eagles of W.S. Neal, East Brewton, will furnish the opposition in the title with the kickoff set for 8 p.m.
“Coach John Robinson and assistant Henry Allman will be trying to get their Aggies back in the groove they found in defeating Lyeffion in the season opener. A large crowd is anticipated.”

“Mr. and Mrs. Billy Mims, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kelly and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ryals attended the Alabama-Tulane ball game in Mobile Saturday night."

“The Evergreen Athletic Boosters Club will meet tonight at seven o’clock at Evergreen High School, according to Howard Fore, a former president of the club, who is now at the reigns since Ed Raines resigned as president at the close of last week’s meeting.
“The Boosters will also complete plans and begin pushing their project of a color TV to be given away at the T.R. Miller game.”

“It will be the Evergreen High Aggies versus the Frisco City High Whippets here in Brooks Stadium tomorrow, Friday night, and another big game is offered to local football fans. Frisco City will bring a fast, tricky, pass-happy squad to do battle with the Aggies, who will be trying for their fourth straight win of the season.
“Coach Hart’s probable starters are left end, Dickey Bozeman, 150; left tackle, Shelton Craig, 165; left guard, Dean Shaver, 170; center, Jack Cunningham, 160; right guard, Bruce Johnson, 168; right tackle, Sammy Hanks, 203; right end, Nick Stallworth, 160, or Pete White, 160; quarterback, John Law Robinson, 150; right halfback, Thomas Coker, 150; left halfback, John Greel Ralls, 165; and fullback, James Ryan, 160.”

“The Conecuh County Training School Eagles journeyed to Atmore last Saturday, Oct. 2, and played a strong Atmore team in a scoreless tie.
“Coaches Kennedy and Cheatham believe they have discovered a backfield combination that will click in Jones, Lloyd, Rabb and Ingram. The line played a stellar game on defense, and the coaches are stressing offensive plays for the line in their coming game Saturday night, Oct. 9, 1948, with Clarke County Training School from Coffeeville, Ala.
“The game will be played in Brooks Stadium at 8:15 p.m. and a play-by-play description of the game will again be handled by Joe Payne.”

“Evergreen Aggies meet the strong team from Opp here Friday afternoon at Gantt Field beginning at 3:30 in their second game of the season. Opp has one of the strongest aggregations in this section this year, and it is thought that Friday’s game will be one of the hardest fought of the entire schedule.”

“Evergreen came off victor in their contest with Excel last Friday by the score of 7 to 0. Coach McInnis has been giving plenty of time on the weak spots in the workouts this week and by Friday the Aggies should be functioning in good form. Cook, quarterback who was out of the game with Excel, is expected to be back in the fracas with Opp and this should strengthen the team.
“The game with Opp Friday will no doubt prove the real strength of the team.”

“Conecuh County baseball team wasn’t good enough to win the championship of the Central Alabama League over Greenville in the recent playoff series but it proved to be good enough to administer 2 to 0 defeat to the Bay Minette team, winner of the South Alabama League championship in one of the best games witnessed here at Gantt Field Sunday afternoon.
“For the locals Hyde pitched and Melton caught while for Bay Minette Smith and Becker twirled and Bright caught. Hyde was touched for five scattered singles, Smith for six hits and Becker for one. Five Bay Minette batters were retired the strikeout route by Hyde. Evergreen’s two runs were scored in the fourth inning by Melton and Hanna.”
