Johnny Davis, Jacob Ramer tied for first in football pick 'em contest

This past Saturday wrapped up the 11th week of our local ESPN College Football Pick ‘Em Contest, and after the dust settled on Saturday, Johnny Davis and Jacob Ramer found themselves tied for first place overall. Ramer was in sole possession of first place last week, and Davis moved up from second place.


Hunter Norris dropped from second place to third place, and I finished in fourth place. Jeremy Matheny was in fifth place. My brother Mark Peacock and David Price were tied for sixth place overall.

Aaron Albritton and Sharon Peacock finished Saturday tied for eighth place. Travis Presley was in tenth place. With four more weeks to go, there is still time for everyone out there to make their way into the Top 10. Remember, it’s a marathon, not a sprint, and a lot can happen in the college football world in the next three weeks.

There are more than a few good SEC football games on tap for this week, including several games that you won’t want to miss. Games set for this Saturday include Jacksonville State at Florida, Georgia Southern at Georgia, Samford at Kentucky, Syracuse at Missouri, Wofford at South Carolina, Tennessee at Vanderbilt, Western Carolina at Alabama, Arkansas at Mississippi State, Alabama A&M at Auburn, Ole Miss at LSU, Sam Houston State at Texas A&M.

For what it’s worth, here are my picks for this weekend’s slate of games. I like Florida over Jacksonville State, Georgia over Georgia Southern, Kentucky over Samford, Missouri over Syracuse, South Carolina over Wofford, Vanderbilt over Tennessee, Alabama over Western Carolina, Mississippi State over Arkansas, Auburn over Alabama A&M, LSU over Ole Miss, Texas A&M over Sam Houston State.

The high school football playoffs are in full swing this week as the AHSAA member schools enter the second round of playoff action and the AISA schools get ready for their third and final round of play.

The AISA finals will be played tomorrow (Friday) in Troy and will feature three great games. Play will kick off at noon when Tuscaloosa Academy takes on Lee-Scott Academy in the Class AAA title game. At 3:30 p.m., Restoration Academy will play Pickens Academy in the Class A championship game. The day will wrap up with the Class AA title game between Edgewood Academy and Clarke Prep at 7 p.m.

In the AHSAA, a number of Southwest Alabama teams are still alive and in the playoff hunt, including 1A teams Linden, Brantley, St. Luke’s Episcopal of Mobile and McIntosh. In 2A, you’ve got Sweet Water, Washington County, Luverne and Mobile Christian. Class 3A teams that are still in the mix include T.R. Miller, Straughn, W.S. Neal and Bayside Academy.

UMS-Wright of Mobile is the only Southwest Alabama team still in the playoffs. In Class 5A, you’ve got Spanish Fort, Vigor of Prichard, St. Paul’s of Mobile and Greenville. Class 6A teams still in the hunt include McGill-Toolen of Mobile, Daphne, Fairhope and Foley.
