J.R.R. Tolkien's 'The Hobbit' returns to best-sellers lists this week

Today is Sunday, so that means that it’s time for my weekly breakdown of this week’s Publishers Weekly Best-Seller List. According to the list, there are two new books at the top of the four major best-sellers lists this week.

"Notorious Nineteen: A Stephanie Plum Novel" by Janet Evanovich replaced "The Last Man: A Novel" as the No. 1 book on the hardcover fiction best-sellers list.

“Kill Alex Cross" by James Patterson replaced "Jack Reacher: One Shot: A Novel" by Lee Child as the top book on the mass market paperback best-sellers list.

"Killing Kennedy" by Bill O'Reilly remained the top book on the hardcover nonfiction best-sellers list for the second week in a row.

"The Perfect Hope" by Nora Roberts remained the No. 1 book on the trade paperbacks best-sellers list for the third straight week.

There are three books on this week’s hardcover fiction best-sellers list that weren’t on that list last week. They (along with their place on the list) include "Notorious Nineteen: A Stephanie Plum Novel" by Janet Evanovich (1), "Agenda 21" by Glenn Beck and Harriet Parke (2) and "The Forgotten" by David Baldacci (3).

There are four books on this week’s hardcover nonfiction best-sellers list that weren’t on the list last week. They include "The 4-Hour Chef: The Simple Path to Cooking Like a Pro, Learning Anything, and Living the Good Life" by Timothy Ferriss (3), "Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die: Musings from the Road" by Willie Nelson and Kinky Friedman (11), "Bruce" by Peter Ames Carlin (13) and "The Patriarch: The Remarkable Life and Turbulent Times of Joseph P. Kennedy" by David Nasaw (14).

There are five books on this week’s mass market paperbacks best-sellers list that weren’t on the list last week. They include “Kill Alex Cross" by James Patterson (1), "Wicked Business: A Lizzy and Diesel Novel" by Janet Evanovich (2), "Glad Tidings" by Debbie Macomber (8), "Golden Shores" by Nora Roberts (13) and "Already Home" by Susan Mallery (14).

There is only one book on this week’s trade paperbacks best-sellers list that wasn’t on the list last week - "The Hobbit: Or There and Back Again" by J.R.R. Tolkien, which was No. 15 on that list.

As a reminder, I’m posting these lists each Sunday because they, as a whole, represent a great, contemporary recommended reading list.
