Patterson's new 'Alex Cross, Run' novel debuts atop best-sellers list

Today is Sunday, so that means that it’s time for my weekly breakdown of this week’s Publishers Weekly Best-Sellers Lists. According to the lists, there is only one new book at the top of the four major best-sellers lists this week.

"Alex Cross, Run" by James Patterson replaced "A Week in Winter" by Maeve Binchy as the No. 1 book on the hardcover fiction best-sellers list.

"Life Code: The New Rules for Winning in the Real World" by Phil McGraw replaced "Shred: The Revolutionary Diet: 6 Weeks 4 Inches 2 Sizes" by Ian K. Smith remained the top book on the hardcover nonfiction best-sellers list for the second straight week.

"American Sniper" by Chris Kyle, Scott McEwen and Jim DeFelice remained the top book on the mass market paperback best-sellers list for the third straight week.

"Proof of Heaven" by Eben Alexander remained the No. 1 book on the trade paperbacks best-sellers list for the 13th week in a row.

There was only one new book on this week’s hardcover fiction best-sellers list that wasn’t on that list last week – "Alex Cross, Run" by James Patterson, which was No. 1 on that list.

There were four books on this week’s hardcover nonfiction best-sellers list that weren’t on the list last week. They (and their places on the list) included "The Soundtrack of My Life" by Clive Davis and Anthony DeCurtis (3), "The Melt Method" by Sue Hitzmann (5), "The Dash Diet Weight Loss Solution" by Marla Heller (12) and "Damn Few: Making the Modern SEAL Warrior" by Rorke Denver and Ellis Henican (14).

There were two books on this week’s mass market paperbacks best-sellers list that weren’t on the list last week. They included "Look Again" by Lisa Scottoline (14) and "Safe Haven" by Nicholas Sparks (15).

There were two books on this week’s trade paperbacks best-sellers list that weren’t on the list last week. They included "Death Comes to Pemberley" by P.D. James (13) and "The Silver Linings Playbook" by Matthew Quick (15).

As a reminder, I’m posting these lists each Sunday because they, as a whole, represent a great, contemporary recommended reading list.
