This week's movie picks are 'The Lone Ranger' and 'Inescapable'

It’s Wednesday, so today I give you my weekly list of movies that will open in theatres this week as well as a list of movies that will be released this week on DVD.

I hope this will serve as a useful guide as to what’s going on this week if you happen to be near a movie theatre or if you’re looking for something to drop into your NetFlix queue or pick up at the local Redbox.

Movies that are scheduled to hit theatres this week include:

- Absence (Horror, Not Rated): Directed by Jimmy Loweree and starring Lee Burns, Michaelangelo Covino, Eric Matheny, Tamra Meskimen and Don Moss.

- Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me (Documentary, Music, PG-13): Directed by Drew DeNicola and Olivia Mori.

- Despicable Me 2 (Comedy, Family, PG): Directed by Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud and starring the voices of Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, Miranda Cosgrove, Elsie Fisher and Dana Gaier.

- Hammer of the Gods (Action, Adventure, R): Directed by Farren Blackbum and starring Charlie Bewley, Clive Standen, James Cosmo, Elliot Cowan and Glynis Barber.

- Just Like a Woman (Drama, R): Directed by Rachid Bouchareb and starring Sienna Miller, Golshifteh Farahani, Bahar Soomekh, Tim Guinee and Roschdy Zem.

- Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain (Comedy Performance, R): Directed by Tim Story and starring Kevin Hart, Dwayne Brown, Tonya George, Justine Herron and William Herron.

- The Lone Ranger (Adventure, Western, Action, PG-13): Directed by Gore Verbinski and starring Armi Hammer, Johnny Depp, Ruth Wilson, Dwight Yoakam and Helena Bonham Carter.

- The Look of Love (Comedy, Drama): Directed by Michael Winterbottom and starring Steve Coogan, Anna Friel, Imogen Poots, Stephen Fry and Shirley Henderson.

- Stuck in Love (Drama, Comedy, Romance, R): Directed by Josh Boone and starring Greg Kinnear, Jennifer Connelly, Nat Wolff, Lily Collins and Logan Lerman.

- The Way, Way Back (Comedy, Drama, PG-13): Directed by Nat Faxon and Jim Rash and starring Liam James, Sam Rockwell, Steve Carell, Toni Collette and AnnaSophia Robb.

New DVD releases this week include:

- 6 Souls (Horror, Suspense, R): Directed by Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein and starring Julianne Moore, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Frances Conroy, Michael Graves and Nathan Corddry.

- The Girl (Drama, PG-13): Directed by David Riker and starring Abbie Cornish, Will Patton, Giovanna Zacarias, Luci Christian and Raul Castillo.

- The House I Live In (Documentary, Not Rated): Directed by Eugene Jarecki.

- Inescapable (Action, Suspense, R): Directed by Ruba Nadda and starring Alexander Siddig, Marisa Tomei, Joshua Jackson, Oded Fehr and Bonnie Lee Bouman.

- Kentucky Fried Movie (Comedy, R): Directed by John Landis and starring Evan Kim, Master Bong Soo Han, Bill Bixby, George Lazenby and Henry Gibson.

- Tai Chi Hero (Action, Adventure, Not Rated): Directed by Stephen Fung and starring Jayden Yuan, Angelababy, Eddie Peng, Tony Leung Ka Fai and Peter Stormare.

- Venus and Serena (Sports, Documentary, PG-13): Directed by Maiken Baird and Michelle Major and starring Venus Williams and Serena Williams.

If I could only watch one movie at the theatre this week, it would be “The Lone Ranger,” and if I had to pick just one DVD to rent this week, it would be “Inescapable.”
