Tolkien 'Beowulf' translation debuts on best-sellers list this week

Today is Sunday, so that means that it’s time for my weekly breakdown of this week’s Publishers Weekly Best-Sellers Lists. According to those lists, there are two new books at the top of the four major best-sellers lists this week.

“The One & Only” by Emily Giffin replaced "Unlucky 13" by James Patterson and Maxine Paetro as the No. 1 book on the hardcover fiction best-sellers list.

“One Nation: What We Can All Do to Save America’s Future” by Ben Carson and Candy Carson replaced "Capital in the Twenty-First Century" by Thomas Piketty as the top book on the hardcover nonfiction best-sellers list.

"Inferno" by Dan Brown remained the top book on the mass market paperback best-sellers list for the third week in a row.

"Gone Girl" by Gillian Flynn remained the top book on the trade paperbacks best-sellers list for the fourth week in a row.

There were four new books on this week’s hardcover fiction best-sellers list that weren’t on the list last week. Those books (and their places on the list) included “The One & Only” by Emily Giffin (1), “The Lincoln Myth” by Steve Berry (5), “Sniper’s Honor: A Bob Lee Swagger Novel by Stephen Hunter (8) and  “Beowulf: A Translation and Commentary” by J.R.R. Tolkien and edited by Christopher Tolkein (14).

There were five new books on this week’s hardcover nonfiction best-sellers list that wasn’t on the list last week. Those books included “One Nation: What We Can All Do to Save America’s Future” by Ben Carson and Candy Carson (1), “Brunette Ambition” by Lea Michele (9), “A Fighting Chance” by Elizabeth Warren (12), “Thrive: The Third Metric to Redefining Success and Creating a Life of Well-Being, Wisdom and Wonder” by Arianna Huffington (14) and “James Madison: A Life Reconsidered” by Lynne Cheney (15).

There was only one new book on this week’s mass market paperbacks best-sellers list that wasn’t on the list last week - “Hidden Order” by Brad Thor, which was No. 2 on the list.

There were two new book on this week’s trade paperbacks best-sellers list that weren’t on the list last week. Those books included “County Music’s Greatest Eats – Presented by CMT” by the editors of Southern Living Magazine (6) and “Tom Clancy’s Op-Center: Out of the Ashes” by Dick Counch, George Galdorisi and Steve Pieczenik (14).
