Three UFOs were reported in Alabama during the month of May

It’s the third Thursday of the month, so this week I’m giving you an update on UFO reports in Alabama from the previous month, courtesy of the Mutual UFO Network.

A search for UFO reports in Alabama between May 1 and May 31 on MUFON’s website, www.mufon.com, resulted in three reports from within our state during that time.

The first incident occurred on Thurs., May 14, around 4:30 a.m. in Auburn in Lee County. The witness in this case was drinking coffee on his front porch when he looked up into the clear skies and saw what he assumed was a plane approaching a nearby airport. However, the man said the craft’s “lighting was odd” and produced no sound.

The object crossed the sky “at a very leisurely speed,” the witness said, as he watched it for about a full minute before it passed behind some trees. Every few seconds, he could catch a glimpse of it through the leaves, he said. In the end, the witness was left with no explanation for the unusual object.

The second incident occurred on Sat., May 16, around 5:48 p.m. in Sheffield in Colbert County. The witness in this case was standing with his niece on the bank of the Tennessee River not far from his home. They’d gone down to the river to take some pictures, and when they got home they noticed an “odd-looking” object in one of the photos.

The witness said he “could not figure out what it was. It was not observed while we were taking the pictures, only afterward. In the photo the witness attached to his report, you can see a brown, oval-shaped object in the sky, just above the treeline.

The third incident occurred on Wed., May 20, around 5:24 p.m. in Coker in Tuscaloosa County. The witness in this case was driving to his home in Coker from the Wal-Mart in Northport and saw something that “appeared to be falling fast from the sky in what I thought were fragments of something.” The witness saw four distinct trails, and the lead trail was bright, reflective and white.

“From looking at the trails, it looked as though one may have changed course during its decent,” the witness reported. “My initial feeling was fear. I didn't know if I witnessed some kind of aircraft that may of exploded, an asteroid or missiles.”

When the witness arrived home, he ran inside and got members of his family to come outside to see for themselves.

“We could still see the smoke trails, but no longer could see the aircraft,” the witness said. “The whole event lasted less than five minutes.”
